Bishoo, Gabriel lead Windies fightback

Unpredictable batting of Pakistan was rocked by West Indies bowlers as two batsmen got out in very first over of the innings.

Pakistan still trail by 24 runs with all ten wickets intact.

Kraigg Brathwaite scored a half-century to lead West Indies' fightback after losing three early wickets on the second afternoon of the third and final Test against Pakistan in Sharjah on Monday (October 31).

In a first session that had five wickets falling for 64 runs, Pakistan pulled after having been bowled out in the day reducing West Indies to 38 for 3. The duo added 39 runs for the fifth wicket, steadying Pakistan's sinking ship.

Bowling coach Roddy Estwick believes West Indies can be a Test force to be reckoned with within the next two years, once the young players continue their promising development.

Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and fast bowler Shannon Gabriel shared seven wickets and restricted Pakistan to 255/8 on the first day of the third and final Test on Sunday.

Brathwaite played 318 balls and hit 11 boundaries in his unbeaten 142-run innings. After adding 26 runs in the day, Alzarri Joseph (2-57) dismissed both the overnight batsmen, Mohammad Amir (20) and Yasir Shah (12) in the 91st over.

After getting to 8 for 255 on the back of a Sami Aslam 74 and a trio of half centuries from middle order Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq and Safraz Ahmed, Pakistan were eventually all out for 281.

Mohammad Amir distressed Johnson in the first over by swinging the ball away from the left hander, before he was dismissed by Wahab Riaz with a straight ball that trapped him in front for 1.

Pakistan's strong batting line-up, coupled with the leg-spin of Yasir Shah, proved too good for the inexperienced West Indies who started the tour on a sour note when head coach Phil Simmons was sacked. Press-ups (or push-ups) took off as a unique way for Pakistan's cricket team to celebrate following a test against England in July when Misbah himself first dropped to the ground to flex his muscles.

Aslam faced 172 balls and counted seven fours and a six while Younis, who gathered a hundred in the last Test in Abu Dhabi, struck four fours and a six in a 100-ball knock.
