Global warming isn't hoax: Chinese minister says

He was in response to a question about speculations that the United States would pull out of the Paris Agreement after climate change denier Donald Trump takes over from President Barack Obama.

And according to Bloomberg, when China's president Xi Jinping spoke with Trump on the phone earlier this week, he reiterated that the country plans to continue its efforts in battling climate change, "whatever the circumstances".

Trump, prior to his run for office, claimed the Chinese invented climate change as a "hoax" to dampen US manufacturing.

"If you look at the history of climate change negotiations, actually it was initiated by the IPCC with the support of the Republicans during the Reagan and senior Bush administration during the late 1980s", China's Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin told reporters during an hour-long briefing.

Among the lenders: the Bank of China, one of the largest banks in a country that Mr. Trump has railed against as an economic foe of the United States.

"The national security community has focused on the intersection of climate risk and security for over a decade", said retired U.S. NavyRear Adm. David Titley. "The conclusions are clear: climate risks are accelerating in their likelihood and severity". "We have to expect they will take a smart and wise decision".
