From the original press release for that first National Adoption Day in 2000, Dave Thomas, our founder who was also adopted noted, "Thanks to the efforts of many people who are opening their hearts on this special day, these children will experience the joys of a permanent, loving home this holiday season and for years to come".

The Vauchiers, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, were among 57 families who adopted children during Connecticut's Adoption Day.

David and Nicole Needham and their five foster children Realynn, John, Keyonna, Skyla and Gabriella were excited to share this day with other families.

Charles says adopting the girls was a much easier process than she anticipated. "And it's not how do we do it, it's why don't we do more". "The only question I have is who's holding down the fort at the Children's Administration?" he said, looking at the dozen social workers in the room who were there supporting David. She said it's been a rewarding experience, especially taking in emergency placements, which sometimes come in the middle of the night.

"It makes me happy now knowing that I will have a mother", said Newland.

The events are being held to bring awareness to children in MA that are in need of adoption.

"It'll be important to have strong support whether it's with your family or local support groups for foster and adoptive parents", she said.

In court, they finalized the adoption of 2-year-old Gabriella.

"They fall in love with these kids", says Linda Spears, the Commissioner of the Mass. Dept. of Children and Families.

"The thing about it is, when she got into our home".

Jeffery Hiller said the kids would continue calling them "mom" and "dad".

"About 7 years ago we were told by a doctor that we could not have children. I feel like we've been here the whole time".

The Department of Children and Families reported that 73 children, including 16 pairs of siblings were being adopted by 57 families. Friday afternoon, they're here for 3-year-old Ethan.

Families finalizing adoptions on Friday were all there for different reasons, some had been foster parents to the children for so long that they felt like they had already become a part of the family.

It's a new chance for the kids and a new chapter in so many families.
