Police respond to fight at Patrick Henry Mall

Arrests are being reported following youthful melees at western Pennsylvania's Monroeville Mall on Monday, part of a nationwide outbreak of violence at shopping centers in the midst of the post-holiday rush.

Police initially received reports of gunshots inside the mall, prompting law enforcement officials with long guns to search the food court after shoppers heard a sudden, sharp, loud noise.

Several people were arrested when a fight broke out at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills in Manchester, Connecticut.

A similar incident happened at about 6:30 p.m.at a mall in Beachwood, Ohio, about 20 miles outside of Cleveland.

Aurora police were called by mall security after they saw a large group of teens gathering in the food court area, according to Ferrelli.

Authorities are exploring the possibility of there having been links that twine together the Boxing Day fights that marred shopping experiences from Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Aurora, Colorado.

Reports of shots being fired are false, police say.

Authorities shut down the mall as dozens of officers converged on the scene and worked to restore order.

And in NY, at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, a fight triggered a mad dash for the exits amid reports of a false shooting. He said crews evacuated the mall.

In Elizabeth, Mayor Chris Bollowage said someone shouted "gun" after a chair was slammed at the Mills. A string of fights broke out involving as many as 150 people, Valle told the station.

Meanwhile, police outside Denver evacuated the Town Center at Aurora after reporting a "large disturbance".

Bollwage said that eight to 10 people were injured in the ensuing chaos.

Officers said they were working to clear out the parking lots at about 5:35 p.m. Officers arrested seven people.
