Trump thanks Charter for $25 Billion Plan to invest in US

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott met at the White House on Friday morning with President Donald Trump and top executives of Charter Communications to laud the broadband company's plans to hire about 20,000 USA workers - including 600 for a bilingual call center in McAllen - although the expansion plans were first announced last summer. That announcement was made by President Trump, along with Charter CEO Tom Rutledge, with Texas Governor Greg Abbott joining the event. "In connection with our transactions with Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks previous year, we reaffirmed this resolve, stating that we expected to hire 20,000 new employees at Charter, many in customer service".

In the case of Charter, Chief Executive Thomas Rutledge said he expected to hire 20,000 new US employees over the next four years.

In an appearance in the Oval Office, Rutledge stood to Trump's left, as the president said that his administration would "massively eliminate job-killing regulations" and added that "you're going to see thousands and thousands and thousands of jobs and companies and everything coming back into our country".

And with Trump signaling an era of corporate tax breaks and deregulation, Charter also committed to a $25 billion investment into broadband infrastructure and technology over the next four years.

But Charter, along with its recently acquired subsidiaries Bright House Networks and Time Warner Cable, had already been spending an average of $5.3 billion a year on broadband for the past three years, Charter told the Post. "We have a president who is living up to his campaign promises, and that is to create more jobs".

Last year, Charter announced plans to hire 20,000 new employees, including many in customer service.

Rutledge has previously hinted that he'd be very happy if the Trump administration reversed the FCC's Title II classification decision, which would by proxy erode the agency's consumer protection authority - and the nation's net neutrality rules.

Still, the $25 billion investment is a new announcement.

By aligning themselves with Trump's pledges to protect American workers from competition overseas, companies can get the president's ear to press their own agendas. It will also open a new bilingual call center in McAllen, hiring 600 workers there.
