The first rocket relaunch in history

On March 30, SpaceX fired off one of its Falcon 9 rockets and delivered a satellite into orbit about 22,230 miles (35,790 kilometers) above Earth.

SpaceX successfully landed eight rockets prior to this week's launch, but Thursday was the first time one of those rockets was deployed again. More than a decade ago, when Musk and SpaceX were in the planning and development stages for the Falcon 9 and its Merlin engines, Musk initially wanted to recover both stages of the rocket.

Despite the odds of successful integration, SpaceX CEO and founder Elon Musk is considering plans to upcycle parts of the Falcon Heavy rocket for future flights to test before it debuts this summer.

"Imagine you had $6 million in cash on a pallet flying through the air that's just going to smash into the ocean", Musk said. If you would recall, it was in December 2015 that SpaceX successfully launched a satellite into orbit before coming back to Earth and landing upright on a strip of landing pad in Cape Canaveral.

Judging from the achievements of bold companies such as SpaceX, but also Blue Origin which has its own working reusable rocket plans, a fully functional reusable rocket could surface within the next 12 months.

United States space firm SpaceX made history on Thursday as it launched an already-used Falcon 9 rocket back into space for the first time and then landed its first stage on a droneship in the Atlantic Ocean. He was at a loss for words after the Falcon 9 core landed on the bull's-eye of the ocean platform following liftoff with a broadcasting satellite, achieving what some had once told him was impossible.

The next level - bringing back more of the Falcon 9 Heavy. The Falcon Heavy is the higher variant of the Falcon 9 launch vessel and is made of a common Falcon 9 rocket core, with two extra strap-on boosters, anchored in the first stage of Falcon 9 rocket.

NASA also has shared the quest for rocket reusability.

As reported by Spaceflight Insider, Musk intends to do this using what he calls the Interplanetary Transport System. Currently, millions of dollars' worth of rocket parts are jettisoned after each launch.

Thus, the typical cost of a SpaceX launch of $62 million might be reduced to $43 million - a considerable contribution to the satellite company's bottom line. "But it will certainly be less than the current price of our rockets, obviously, and it will be far lower than any other rocket in the world", Musk claimed. "We'll just take two first stages and use them as strap-on boosters", Musk said.
