Ex-NFL star Hernandez acquitted in Boston double murder

Prosecutors said it happened after the American football star became enraged that one of the men had bumped into him causing him to spill his drink. Prosecutors argued that Hernandez wanted to stop Bradley from testifying, but a jury did not find him guilty on the charge of witness intimidation.

Hernandez's lawyers told the jury that Hernandez's former friend, Alexander Bradley, shot the men during a dispute over a drug deal.

Hernandez is already facing life in prison for the murder of Lloyd. He said Hernandez later opened fire on the men's auto as they waited at a stoplight.

"The verdict reached today in the Aaron Hernandez double murder trial was very disappointing".

Prosecutors said Hernandez opened fire on the men's vehicle because he felt disrespected when one of them bumped into him and spilled his drink at a Boston nightclub. Bradley is serving a five-year prison term in CT for firing shots at a Hartford nightclub in 2014.

"What won this case was a dearth of evidence that connected Hernandez to these shootings", Ron Sullivan, a member of his defense team, told reporters after the verdicts.

Jury forewoman Lindsey Stringer read a statement outside court noting the more than 70 witnesses and over 380 exhibits presented in the case.

Conley said Friday that prosecutors would not go after Bradley in the killings because they believe they already charged the right person. As his charges, stemming from the 2012 double murder of Daniel de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtardo, 28, were read off, the jury's decision was mostly the same: not guilty.

Hernandez, 27, grew up in Bristol, Connecticut, and played for the Patriots from 2010 to 2012. He was not charged in the 2012 killings until 2014.

Jurors in the trial that concluded Friday deliberated for about 37 hours.

On Friday, the jury acquitted Hernandez on seven of eight charges after reportedly deliberating for 37 hours.
