John Mayer, Dave Chapelle Unite To Honor The Late Charlie Murphy

Eddie Murphy was among numerous comics and film stars opening up about the loss of his older brother, Charlie, who died Wednesday after a battle with leukemia. The funnyman's brother Eddie Murphy and the rest of the family released a statement, saying, "Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie".

Murphy became a national sensation while on the cast of Chappelle's Show, through the iconic one-two punch of the Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories sketches, focused on his experiences interacting with Rick James and Prince.

Chappelle addressed the audience "Today, I got some awful news", he said. News, he is known for his work on "Chappelle's Show" on comedy Central.

Chappelle then asked Mayer to perform a special rendition of "You're Gonna Live Forever in Me", which the comedian said reminded him of Murphy. And John, you are a sight for sore eyes'. Fellow comedian Chris Rock took to Twitter when news broke of his passing: "We just lost one of the funniest most real brothers of all time". Most recently, Mr. Murphy starred in the Adult Swim series "Black Jesus", which was first shown in 2014, and voiced a character in the animated Adult Swim show "The Boondocks".

The family added: "Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers".

"I've been doing him since I was two or three", Murphy said. He also co-wrote Vampire in Brooklyn and 2007's Norbit. Murphy also made a number of appearances in other films and TV shows dating back to 1988.
