Isaiah Thomas Delivered An Inspirational Performance One Day After His Sister's Death

Thomas played through tears Sunday night in the Celtics' 106-102 loss to the Chicago Bulls in the opener of a first-round Eastern Conference playoff series - just a day after his 22-year-old sister Chyna Thomas was killed in a auto crash.

Isaiah Thomas, the starting point guard for the Boston Celtics, might not play in Game 2 of the Celtics series vs. the Bulls.

The Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics meet in game two of the National Basketball Association first round playoffs Tuesday at the TD Garden.

Thomas attended a film session and walk-through Monday, but did not speak with the media.

"He was incredible. He's an unbelievable player and an awesome person", Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens said.

The Washington State Patrol said Chyna Thomas, 22, died at the scene on Interstate 5 in Federal Way after the accident about 5am. No funeral date is set, and Stevens says the Celtics organization hopes to attend.

"He's the reason we are where we are", Zeller said. "This was hard. I felt like we really dealt with it the right way, but Isaiah's the one I felt dealt with it best".

Isaiah Thomas chose to play Sunday one day after his younger sister was killed in a one-car crash. The Celtics didn't get the win, but Thomas was truly inspiring on Sunday.

Several messages were written on Thomas' shoes Sunday, including "Chyna", "RIP Lil Sis" and "I love you".

"Isaiah is a very strong man and none of us have any idea what he's going through or feeling", said Boston's Al Horford, who had 19 points, eight assists and seven rbeoundes.

Before the game, TNT showed Boston teammate Avery Bradley - a former player at Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma - comforting Thomas on the bench during a shoot-around. I mean, I don't know how this night is going to turn out, but to be sitting on the sideline a few minutes before the game, crying, that just makes me uncomfortable for him. He looked toward the rafters just before the tip-off.

"Whatever he needs to do, he needs to do, and we'll help him in any way", Stevens said. Stevens said the decisions on his availability are Thomas's alone. "I think he's as good as he can be, I guess".

"We've talked, a little bit last night and then again today, about as he goes through it, and if he feels like he needs to not [play], then whatever he wants", Stevens said.
