IT summons Lalu's daughter and husband in benami land case

The summons came a day after the Enforcement Directorate arrested Bharti's Chartered Accountant (CA) Rajesh Agarwal, in connection with the money trail scam of around Rs 8000 crore. Agrawal was arrested for allegedly being instrumental in providing accommodation entries (illegal funds) to launder the money of businessmen brothers- Virendra Jain and Surendra Jain.

An IT official requesting anonymity told IANS: "We have summoned Misa and her husband Shailesh Kumar for questioning on June 6 and 7".

They said the summons to Ms Bharti and Mr Kumar are part of the investigation and their statements will be recorded.

It is claimed that the couple are linked to Mishail Packers and Printers Pvt Ltd and the company has entered into benami deals for purchase of a farm house in the national capital.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi, at a press conference in Patna on Tuesday, said that once he was done with exposing the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief's family, he would turn his attention towards other RJD leaders who, he said, have also amassed wealth beyond their known sources of income. The law provides for a maximum punishment of seven years in jail and a fine. The firm is under the scanner for suspected tax evasion.

The RJD chief, however, sought to put up a fearless face after the raids, saying he was "not scared at all" and will continue to fight against "fascist forces".

"BJP mein himmat nahi hai ki Lalu ki awaz ko daba sake".

Misa Bharti, and her husband were summoned on Wednesday by the income tax department in connection with a "benami" assets case.

Pointing out that Misa became the owner of Rs 50 crore by investing a mere Rs one lakh, he asked "Why would anyone buy shares of a closed company at the rate of Rs 100 per share against the face value of Rs 10 each?"

The arrest comes days after raids were conducted by the Income Tax department at 22 locations in Delhi, Gurugram on companies and people associated with Lalu.

Mr. Lalu Prasad's official residence was the address of the owners of the firms allegedly floated by his family members, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad had said.
