There's also up to 50 percent faster SSD, and support for up to twice the memory. The iMac Pro features four Thunderbolt 3 ports which can connect to up to two high-performance RAID arrays and two 5K displays at the same time for those who thrive on display real estate. Depending on the model you buy, the graphics card could range from Intel Iris Plus 640 (on the entry-level 21.5 inch versions) to either the Radeon Oro 555 and 560 graphics cards on the 21.5-inch iMacs to either the Radeon Pro 570, 575, and 580 cards on the larger 27-inch mmodel.

The latest iMac Pro is scheduled to arrive in stores on December starting from US$4,999.

Featuring next-generation Intel Xeon processors up to 18 cores, iMac Pro is created to handle the most demanding pro workflows. But the headline is the 21.5-inch iMac includes a 4K Display for $200 less than the previous generation.

"It is satisfying to see the capabilities of "Radeon Pro 500" series in elegant form factors and enabling fantastic content creation, gaming and VR experiences", said Raja Koduri, Senior Vice President and Chief Architect, Radeon Technologies Group, AMD, in a statement.

The iMac Pro will be available with an 8-core, 10-core or 16-core processor and Radeon Vega graphics. The new GPU can fetch data at speeds of up to 400 Gbps, while being able to perform up to 11 teraflops, according to the company.

"This will be our fastest and most powerful Mac ever, which brings workstation-class computing to iMac for the first time", said Apple VP of Hardware Engineering John Ternus in a prepared statement. The new MacBook Air models will also get a bump in processor speed. The 15-inch MacBook Pro now comes standard with more powerful discrete graphics with more video memory, and the 13-inch MacBook Pro adds a new US$1,299 configuration.
