Apple reportedly bans Pepe the Frog game from App Store

The updated App Store rules reveal the hard restrictions led by Apple on the appearance of app review prompts and the number of time the users sees them. As reported by 9to5Mac, that day has already come.

The new app review guidelines stipulate that developers may no longer create their own pop-ups to ask for a rating.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has new App Store policy updates that move any voluntary in-app tipping to the category of formal in-app purchase and Apple can take its 30% cut. Apple introduced the rating prompt a few months ago, but it's been optional up until now. Perhaps it is due to that lack of adoption that the company wasted little time before requiring its use.

The second restriction is on how often that prompt can show up.

The app, which was shoddily slapped together with poor English syntax and questionable security-compromising prompts, tells the user that their internet is "not safe" to use.

According to new rules, developers can not display the app review prompts whenever they wish too, instead now they have to follow 2 important points before doing so. It may even make people more interested in leaving a review, because it can be done without exiting the app and because it means they'll be done with the prompt for good.

This is great news for developers who had previously found Apple cracking down on tipping, but it's also good news for Apple's finances. If that results in more reviews - and reviews from users who aren't annoyed about switching apps - that's a good thing for developers, too.
