Mayweather, UFC star McGregor agree to August fight

McGregor was the first to tweet, writing: "The fight is on", alongside a photo of himself and Floyd Mayweather Sr, his future opponent's father and trainer, to point out the age difference between the pair, while also following his typical trolling manner of promoting the fights.

At this point, with the way things are heading, don't be surprised if we see McGregor start filing for some insane "1-0" trademarks as a way to fire back at his opponent before their fight.

Mayweather, who will come out of retirement to take on McGregor, is undefeated in his 49 bouts. It will take place at 154 pounds.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather agreed to a crossover fight with mixed martial arts champions Conor McGregor because his fans wanted it, the 40-year-old has said.

"The reason he's such a superstar is this guy will fight anyone, anywhere and at any time", UFC chief Dana White said about his fighter.

"Everybody's happy", Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said.

The relentless reaction Leonard Ellerbe has received from fans since the Mayweather-McGregor drama began late past year made the Mayweather Promotions CEO realize just how huge the event could become. "It's the right fight at the right place at the right time". The long-awaited Mayweather-Pacquiao bout didn't deliver the type of entertainment fans expected from a heavily hyped, $100 pay-per-view event in May 2015, but their welterweight title fight drew a record of roughly 4.6 million buys and generated more than $600 million in overall revenue.

Both men are expected to receive in excess of $100 million for the historic fight, but the terms of the deal have not yet been divulged.

On Wednesday the Nevada boxing commissions approved a request for a boxing event from Mayweather Productions in August.
