Bihar governor Ram Nath Kovind is BJP's presidential nominee

Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday maintained his party's aggressive stance on the issue of the Presidential polls at the much awaited meeting with BJP President Amit Shah here on Sunday.

The meeting will take place at the Thackeray residence, "Matoshri" in Bandra east on Sunday during the three-day visit of Shah to Mumbai to celebrate the BJP's three years in power at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "If someone is trying to make a Dalit a President with the goal of gaining a vote bank then we are not with them", Thackeray said while addressing party workers on the Shiv Sena's 51st foundation day.

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said the Sena would not be interested in supporting the BJP nominee if he had been chosen only because he is a Dalit.

BJP president Amit Shah has said his party has been pro-free trade and free agriculture policy since its inception.

For the Sena, Thackeray and his son Aditya took part in the talks while Shah and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis represented the BJP. "We will openly support".

The Shiv Sena had earlier said it may choose an "independent" path in the election to the highest constitutional office.

All eyes are on Sena's support as it has embarrassed the BJP in the previous two Presidential elections by backing the rival candidate. "Unless peace is restored and Pakistan stop middling in the internal affairs of India and playing with the internal security by instigating the terrorist and allowing cross border terrorism India should refrain from playing with Pakistan any game", BJP leader S. Prakash told ANI. There is no consensus candidate at this point - with the BJP yet to name its candidate and most of the opposition parties insisting that they can only come to a decision when a name is announced.

Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts, the main Opposition parties continued to fume. It has already said that his choice was on the strength of his Dalit caste which can only help build vote banks, not nation-building. Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu held discussions on the issue with LJP chief and Cabinet colleague Ram Vilas Paswan as well as SP leaders Ram Gopal Yadav and Naresh Agarwal.
