Girl's actions caused her to fall from NY park ride

Investigators say a 14-year-old girl's own actions caused her to fall from a NY amusement park ride and land in the arms of bystanders. Police gave no further details on what the teenager may have done to cause the accident, other than to say the girl is going to be OK.

The girl held dangled briefly while being held by her brother.

Authorities also said that a 47-year-old man was also treated and released from a hospital for a back injury he sustained when he attempted to catch the teen. "I said, 'What, you didn't trust me?' She said, 'No!'"

Law enforcement have been left wondering how a 14-year-old girl managed to fall from a ride at Six Flags Great Escape over the weekend.

"I couldn't let that little girl die", Howard told The Associated Press on Sunday.

"We were just about to leave The Great Escape a Six Flags theme park, when I hear screams of a girl calling for help!"

A 14-year-old girl was injured when she dropped from a ride Saturday night at a Six Flags amusement park in upstate NY, the sheriff's office said. He said he wouldn't be surprised if they didn't add safety belts or other safety restrictions on the ride in future.

"I said: 'It's 'OK!"

Sheriff's investigators, assisted by park personnel, inspected the ride and the auto the girl was in Saturday night and said everything was in proper working order and all safety equipment was intact and operational. Her fall was broken by a small crowd of park workers and attendees, but she was still injured, taken to Glens Falls Hospital, then to Albany Medical Center by helicopter.

In a statement, Six Flags said the New York Department of Labor cleared the gondola ride for operation-but noted that an internal review is pending, meaning nobody can use the ride until it is over.

They say they can't place blame on any person, but they do tell me they have determined that the ride itself and the safety bar to contain the rider did not malfunction.
