Police said the helicopter was assisting law enforcement officers monitoring the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville.

Cullen and Bates both died at the scene. No one on the ground was reported to be injured. While it will never make up for the loss of a member of our community, we will pursue charges against the driver of the vehicle that caused her death and are confident justice will prevail.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said he and his wife considered both men their close friends and added that they were "deeply saddened" by the deaths.
