Woman's long-lost engagement ring found on carrot

Diamond ring lost almost 13 years ago turns up on garden carrot

In 2011, a Swedish woman's wedding ring was found on a carrot 16 years after it first went missing on her farm. When her granddaughter visited with the ring (still in good condition, and still attached to the carrot), she recognised it immediately.

It happens. When Mary Grams, now 84, lost her engagement ring while pulling weeds at her family farm in Alberta, Canada, in 2004, she thought it was gone forever.

"Anything I do outside, I'm going to take it off and it's going to stay", Grams said. "For some reason, I picked it up and it must have caught on something and pulled [the ring] off", she recalled to Global News. "It got over it somehow".

The 105-year-old heirloom was lost by Mary Grams in 2004 while gardening. When she lost it years ago, she kept it a secret.

No one was the wiser, until this week when her daughter-in-law Colleen Daley decided she wanted some carrots for supper.

"We looked high and low on our hands and knees", she said.

Grams owned the ring since 1951, a year before she married her husband, who died five years ago, according to Telegraph.

"I didn't tell him, even, because I thought for sure he'd give me heck or something", said Grams, who has since moved house.

She asked her husband if he recognized it.

Amazingly, the carrot grew straight through the ring.

Now, she said she believed if her husband was around, he might have gotten a kick out of the whole story.

Mary Grams, 84, holds the carrot encircled by her long-lost engagement ring. When she was washing the carrots she noticed the ring and spoke to her husband, Grams' son, about what she had found. "I've never seen anything like that".
