With Trump's Approval, The Last Of The JFK Files Can Be Released

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will unseal tens of thousands never-before-seen documents on the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy.

The US National Archives must release the remaining files to the public by Thursday 26 October unless Trump moves to prevent it happening.

"Subject to the receipt of further information, I will be allowing, as President, the long blocked and classified JFK FILES to be opened", Trump said, appearing to leave open the possibility that some documents could still be withheld.

Sure to be fodder for conspiracy theorists, the files all relate to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.

Thousands of books, articles, TV shows, movies and documentaries have been produced about the assassination and surveys have shown that a majority of Americans still distrust official evidence that points to Lee Harvey Oswald as the sole killer.

Trump himself is no stranger to the controversies and conspiracy theories that have long swirled around the assassination of the 35th president.

The documents include more than 3,000 that have never been seen by the public and more than 30,000 that have been previously released, but with redactions.

The files reportedly may include a Central Intelligence Agency personality study of Lee Harvey Oswald, testimonies from former Central Intelligence Agency officers, letters from then-FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, as well as files on other suspected players in the assassination.

The Washington Post reported that a number officials at various security agencies, however, are urging the President not to release some of the papers, which are being held by the National Archives and Records Administration.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump made the unfounded claim that the father of GOP rival Sen. No one knows exactly what information is contained in the files; the only guide is an index that vaguely lists the contents of the secret documents.

Republican members of Congress, including Senate judiciary committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, of Iowa, have urged Trump to allow the full release of the documents.

But conspiracy theorists who don't believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in killing Kennedy are likely to be disappointed, Gerald Posner, the author of "Case Closed: Lee Harvey Oswald and the Assassination of JFK", told CNN. Phillips, Morley said, oversaw the agency's operations against Cuban president Fidel Castro and was deeply familiar with the CIA's surveillance of Oswald in Mexico City.
