Congress leaders back Mersal, ask BJP not to 'interfere'

Mersal has cost over Rs 100 crore to its producers Sri Thenandal Films

Vishal, president of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council, and general secretary of the Nadigar Sangam, has issued an official statement in support of Vijay, Mersal, and against the cuts demanded by BJP.

But the BJP has itself to blame for the present scenario, according to an official of the Central Board of Film Certification.

Earlier in the day, superstar Kamal Haasan has come out in support of Vijay-starrer "Mersal", which has been facing opposition over references to the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The Congress top leadership waded into the controversy surrounding the Tamil Diwali hit film "Mersal" over some of its dialogues on GST, or Goods and Services Tax. "Don't silence critics. India will shine when it speaks".

As per current reports the filmmakers of Mersal seemed to have given in to the demand of the BJP and around five parts have been identified from the movie for the cuts. In this film, Vijay's dialogues intend that there is no free health care rather than the "GST" in India and Singapore is having the free health care than the GST. Counter criticism with logical response. The production house also said that some of the dialogues which were opposed by the BJP were "just" from their perspective. "Politicians should take the hint and reconsider these issues". "The film producer should remove the untruths regarding GST from the film", Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan told on Friday. In multiple tweets Saturday, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said, "Notice to film makers: Law is coming, you can only make documentaries praising government's policies...."

After the meeting with BJP members, the film-producer revealed, "our honest approach to meet them in person, we thank them all, we explained the movie's objective, our stand and that this movie has not been produced with an intention to hurt anyone and they have generously accepted it". Now, movie goers have credited PM Modi and his government for giving unwanted political attention to an otherwise entertaining movie. "Even an ordinary person should get access to proper medical amenities and this is the storyline of the movie". In two of them, the actor is seen talking about the ongoing government and other schemes.
