New Patriots TE Bennett has torn rotator cuff

Martellus Bennett's short stay in Green Bay is over

After getting cut by the Packers on Wednesday for "failure to disclose a medical condition" and signing with the Patriots on Thursday, Martellus Bennett gave his side of the story about how his time in Green Bay ended in a long, expletive-filled rant on Instagram.

Bennett signed a three-year, $21 million contract that included a $6.3 million signing bonus in free agency.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged he advised Bennett seek additional opinions about his shoulder injury. He did not play in the 30-17 loss on Monday to the Detroit Lions.

Bennett, playing in his 10th National Football League season, had just 24 receptions in seven games with the Packers but had not played since October 22 - the week before Green Bay's bye week. And because he's considering retiring after the season, he may not suit up for another game in the NFL.

The only question is if Bennett still has a desire to play anymore.

"He took on a very heavy role and I thought he did a good job with it", Kendricks said. Prior to his release, Bennett also tweeted that this season might be his final in the NFL. He was claimed by the Patriots the next day. "I talked to him Tuesday (following the bye week) after practice and he (had) a shoulder concern injury". It got worse during the season, specifically against the cowboys so I asked to have it checked and we checked it. The last medical conversation I was involved with in regards to Marty, they were talking about scheduling surgery. After that, then you have the termination and then the claim.

It looks like they will have newly re-acquired tight end Martellus Bennett for this weekend, but wide receiver Chris Hogan ain't looking so good. I really don't have any comments on that.
