Ben Affleck Was Asked to Direct The Flash Movie

Ben Affleck Batman in Flashpoint

According to The Hollywood Reporter, writing duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will take on the task of directing the standalone Flash movie, which many believe will cover the very complicated, time-travel adventure storyline from the comics known as "Flashpoint".

Should the deal go ahead, it will likely mean Flashpoint has a comedic element in the vein of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which grossed over £637 million at the global box office and received positive reviews, with critics praising the light tone and Tom Holland's performance as Spider-Man.

More recent rumours have also suggested that Ben Affleck's Batman would also be involved and that this may be his swan song as the Caped Crusader as the seemingly unhappy actor bows out of the DCEU to be replaced by somebody else (who many believe to be Jake Gyllenhaal).

More than anything, we're still wondering if DC can get away with making a Flashpoint film, especially since the universe they've set up here isn't one fans are going gaga over.

Affleck was previously set to write, direct, and star in the solo Batman movie, spinning out of his appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, andJustice League.

Dope's Rick Famuyiwa was then recruited and Kiersey Clemons was cast as female lead Iris West, but the director soon left - once again due to creative differences.

The Flashpoint movie is moving forward at WB as the film now has a pair of directors.

Warner Bros.is certainly making plenty of changes to combat the failure of Justice League.

It was announced back at San Diego Comic-Con a year ago that the movie would be based on the Flashpoint comic book story. The studio has finally locked down directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein for the gig, but it sounds like they wanted a bigger name for Flashpoint.

Flashpoint will see Ezra Miller fill the shoes of Barry Allen, the Flash, as he travels back in time to save his mother from being murdered.
