Get ready for some snow and freezing rain Wednesday - there's a 100 percent chance for snow followed by a wintry mix, the National Weather Service said. Around an inch of snow is possible tonight. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

A winter storm will dump snow and freezing rain on the U.S. Midwest and the Northeast beginning on Tuesday after it caused several deaths as it snarled highways and spurred the cancellation of hundreds of flights at Chicago's main airport.

Wind chills are forecast to drop near single digits in some areas by Tuesday morning. Snow tapers off later in the evening and turns into a line of showers around midnight.

Temperatures starting off on the frigid side with morning lows in the teens and single digits. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

TYPE: All snow for most of the area.

Highs in the 20s are supposed to continue throughout the weak, according to the weather service. Monday's high is 39 degrees with partly cloudy skies by the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

As for the rest of Sunday, NWS reported: "Northerly winds gusting to 25 to 30 miles per hour will continue to create areas of blowing snow in open locations even after the snow ends".

Gusty north to northwest winds will bring some blowing and drifting snow, which may reduce visibility values. Winds will gust up to 23 miles per hour.

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of rain after 2 p.m.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9.

Wednesday: Snow, sleet and freezing rain developing between 3-6 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 68.

Thursday, a chance of snow showers.
